Lynda.com: Free resource for skill development

Have you checked out your free subscription to Lynda.com? Lynda.com is a free resource for DePaul students who would like to develop their skills with software, social media, web design, visual media, media production, professional development, and more. When you log into Lynda.com using your Campus Connect credentials, you can access tutorials by experts in their topic.

You can pick a category, such as 3D + Animation above and see various topics, tutorials on software, and learning paths to help you achieve your goals.

Lynda.com has a interdisciplinary array of studies for you to choose from. The various categories of study are:

  • 3D + Animation
  • Audio + Music
  • Business
  • CAD
  • Design
  • Developer
  • Education + Elearning
  • IT
  • Marketing
  • Photography
  • Video
  • Web

Selecting a category takes you to a very informative “homepage” for you to explore. For example, many of our students are interested in Education + Elearning, and the “homepage” looks like this:

Each category’s page has a variety of videos and content for you to browse through. Much of this content is broken down into three categories:

Topics

Each category has a list of topics centering around a particular element of study. For example, the Education + Elearning page’s topics looks like this:

When you select a topic, you are brought to a page that gives you all the tutorials and content related to said topic. This a great way to learn about something specific in a field of study.

Software

Each category also has a list of software tutorials common to that field. Popular software tutorials offered by Lynda.com are Adobe Creative Cloud (such as InDesign and Photoshop), Microsoft Office, Camtasia, and more.

For example, D2L is listed on the Education + Elearning software, and if you click on it, you are led to a page that lists courses and video tutorials for you to follow, which function like online lectures. All you have to do is watch and learn!

Learning Paths

Each category also has Learning Paths, which are led by experts that will help you to develop the skills necessary for your career.

These paths include video tutorials, practice with materials, and a certification of completion that you can add to your work experience.

2017 Convergence – Now Available!

convergencebannerforblog.jpg

MALS/IDS is happy to announce the release of our latest issue of Convergence. MALS/IDS students and alumni should anticipate the arrival of Convergence in their mailboxes within the next few weeks. Until then, please browse the issue (here) on our blog. This edition is focused on the intersections of interdisciplinarity in the lives of our students and the DePaul community. We have highlighted the interdisciplinary nature of the MALS and IDS Programs and discussed the benefits of interdisciplinary degrees and skills. Our in-depth article for this issue spotlights the certificate programs at DePaul, which allow students to gain specialization in an area of focus in a couple courses alongside the pursuit of their degree. Also featured in this issue: get to know students like Geoff Stellfox and new student Estella Achinko as they share their stories with the program, and join us in congratulating our students for their academic achievements.

You can download a PDF of Convergence here.

Thank you to all that contributed to this issue of Convergence!
