Career Center Resources

The Career Center at DePaul has a plethora of helpful resources designed to benefit you. From Job & Internship Fairs to specialized, one-on-one career advising, the Career Center has a wide variety of resources on hand to help you succeed throughout your degree and beyond. We have listed here the various resources that students have found most helpful and given you a little “guide” on how to best use them.

Job & Internship Fairs

Some of the Career Center’s most popular events are the Job & Internship Fairs, which occur at least once a quarter. These fairs allow you to network with employers representing a host of different job and internship opportunities from government positions to media broadcasters. At the fair, you will learn more about these positions and connect with employers in a field of your interest.

If you visit the Career Center’s site for the Job & Internship Fairs, you can find out all the upcoming fair dates and learn about how to “prepare for the fair.” The Career Center even offers a downloadable app for the fair!

Handshake is where you will find job listings, free workshops that will help you prepare for employment and further develop your own career goals, and networking events that will allow you to make invaluable connections with people in your field. All you need is your Campus Connect log-in information and all the resources are thus at your fingertips.

Once you log on, you will see a sidebar that looks like this:

Here, you can browse lists of employers and sign up for interviews with employers on campus. This is a valuable resource for discovering job opportunities and connecting with companies that embody your aspirations–opportunities that you may not have known about prior to using Handshake.

You can also search workshops and networking events under the “Search Events” tab. Here are a few of the free workshop topics that DePaul offers:

  • Perfecting your elevator pitch
  • Interview help
  • Developing your career portfolio
  • Using social media successfully in the job search
  • How to use LinkedIn

You can also search for Job & Internship Fairs under the “Search Fairs” tab, which will allow you to see all the various upcoming and past fairs hosted by the Career Center. A most helpful feature of this search function is the ability to see the employers attending each fair, so if you cannot make it to the fair in person, you can always conduct research about employers on your own. You can view this function when you click on “View Details” for a fair in your search . . .

. . . and look under the “Employer Attendees” section.

DePaul has another free service that can help you find employment opportunities: the Alumni Sharing Knowledge program, or ASK. Here, DePaul helps you to connect with DePaul alumni working in your field. You can use the ASK site to discover mentors–Alumni that can help answer your questions and prepare for interviews. ASK mentors attend networking events, so it is a good idea to keep an eye out for those around campus. Take some time to navigate the site and check out all the links available to you. There are new resources to be found on the ASK site all the time.

Career Advising

The Career Center also offers Career Advising. You can always email a Career Advisor at the Career Center for personalized advice. Simply look up the Career Advisor that specializes in your field and send them an email. Remember to include your full-name, email address, and your question in the email.

You can also make appointments with Graduate Interns who can provide you with personalized feedback and advising in a one-on-one appointment.

To make appointments with a Career Advisor or a Graduate Intern, call 312-362-8437.

HireDePaul Blog & Career Center Twitter

HireDePaul offers additional news, advice, and opportunities for students. It is a great resource to follow, as is the Career Center’s Twitter page, which routinely posts helpful information for students.
