Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS)

  • MALS is an interdisciplinary graduate program for working adults- a true master’s program with intellectual rigor. For MALS students, education is a priority. Through the program, you will be transformed into a confident intellectual with knowledge and skills that can advance your personal success and satisfaction– in life and in the world.
  • MALS has a core curriculum beginning with four rich interdisciplinary courses and ending with a thesis or culminating project of your own design. Between the core and the culminating project, you choose electives from any area in the liberal arts, creating your own concentration.

Masters of Arts/Master of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS)

  • IDS is the only self-constructed graduate program in the Chicago area that permits a completely individualized course of study by allowing you to choose classes not only from different departments, but even from different colleges and schools within the university. In this program, you are highly independent and autonomous.
  • IDS is the right choice for both the professional seeking to retool for a career shift and for the intellectually driven adult whose interests lie in areas beyond traditional liberal arts. The IDS program is 100 percent student-constructed (with faculty assistance and oversight).
